  • Install outlets strategically so they can be easily covered by furniture. If you think about where you will need to plug things in, for example on the side of the bed, and then install where they can be hidden by a nightstand.

  • Match outlets to the color of the surrounding area. Whether a kitchen island or bathroom tile, you can get outlets and covers that will match and blend.

  • Consider floor outlets. If it makes sense for the room and what is being plugged in the floor can be a handy place for an outlet. If you haven’t yet installed the flooring you can consider recessed outlets.

  • Place outlets where TVs will be mounted. Nowadays most living rooms are equipped with a mounted tv, which involves cords to hang down. This can be battled by the outlet already hidden by the TV itself.

You may not always have an influence on where the outlets in your home are placed, and a lot of times homes were built long ago where a mounted TV was not a normal staple. When the outlet placement can’t be controlled there are plenty of DIY tricks and things to buy in order to hide and disguise the unsightly tangles.
